Richard and his close colleague John Bromley have, for some time, been working with individuals who have challenges with their weight, in particular individuals who have tried all manner of diets, wonder drugs & supplements, lifestyle changes and exercise regimes, but who have failed to achieve desired and lasting results. Their respective backgrounds in therapy and understanding the mind – body connection brought them to a staggering discovery about the root causes of weight problems and, more specifically, obesity. 

Consequently they have created the ‘Worth The Weight? Change Programme’, the first of its kind (that we are aware of) to address and deal with the root cause of weight problems and obesity. It uncovers how and when “the damage is done” and what sets in motion the pattern of being unable to keep weight off, to slim down, or to control one’s weight. 

The programme does not prescribe dietary, lifestyle or exercise changes as the answer, although John and Richard do advocate attention to these areas if your aim is to maintain and perpetuate optimal health. However, the programme does acknowledge the key roles of unexpressed negative emotions and the importance that certain significant yet unresolved events in our formative years play in the on-set of weight-related problems.

The programme comprises between 2 and 6 hours of
1-2-1 work with John and Richard over a period of six weeks. It easily and quickly deals with the unexpressed negative emotions at the root of the problem, making sense of how and why dietary and exercise regimes rarely get lasting results. This also creates changes in other areas such as relationships, self-confidence, emotional composure, fulfillment and self-esteem, allowing the individual to realise their true self as well as having unwanted weight, inches and limited food choices disappear. 

The weight change programme is one in a series of 'change programmes' that includes addressing depression, anxiety and addiction problems, as well as 'general' life issues and 'physical' illness and dis-ease. In these six-hours-over-six-weeks Programmes, Richard and John coach you through the process of creating the changes and the life you want for yourself, having firstly dealt with any past 'baggage' before moving onto setting and programming your internal compass for the success and happiness you seek. These Programmes are designed to help you rid yourself once and for all from any mental, physical or emotional issues that may be holding you back, and allow you to have in your life exactly what you want.

“As I approached my sixteenth birthday I was a size 20, and weighed 15 stone!

I was desperate to try anything new; after all, everything else I had tried had failed miserably. I had one 20-minute session a week for about two months in 2002 and remember some but not all of the work we did.

The weight soon began to drop off, up to 2-3lb a week. I started going on bike rides and walking and gave up chocolate and crisps. I changed to having a chicken sandwich for lunch and my dinner now is usually a low-fat calorie-counted ready-meal or tuna, sweet corn and pasta. I’m now 5ft 3in, nine-and-a-half stone (60kg) and wear a size 10-12. I go on holiday with my old school friends and my weight’s no longer an issue.

Before my coaching I had an unpleasant and hostile relationship with my mum, finding it hard to speak with her, and never knowing whether or not she loved me. I felt disgust with myself, fat, vulgar and horrible, and just couldn’t look at myself in the mirror. I had no confidence, no belief in myself, no ability or desire to learn anything or do anything new…and an inner voice that kept saying, “…It’s too hard, I can’t do it, don’t bother trying, give up…”

Afterwards, it was a different story, as it still is today. I feel more confident and better in myself, even around silly things like just walking down the street. I love learning and doing new things and I have an inner voice that tells me “I can” and “I know I can”. Most significant of all though is the relationship I now enjoy with my mum – we are now the best of friends, enjoy gossiping and doing girly things, and I now know she loves me and I feel it.” JB
